A few of Daniel Veith’s investigation projects:

Italian in the Río de la Plata region (dissertation)

Sociolinguistic survey in an area of contact of two very similar languages that consequently provoke many interferences: the Italian language in Buenos Aires, destination of intense immigration for 150 years.

In the time of globalisation the linguistic communities come closer everyday. We want to find out whether the languages tend to mix even more or whether the speakers develop a more intensive linguistic consciousness and learn to separate the languages more clearly.

Using the example of the Italian language in the Río de la Plata region we want to predict the general development of language contact, its tendencies and consequences in a situation of increasing cultural and ethnographic interlacement of the world.

German language and culture in South America

Parallel sociolinguistic surveys in the German colony Rolândia in the south of Brazil (350 miles east of São Paulo) and among the German speaking population of the Belgrano district in Buenos Aires, comparing the situation of the German language and culture in Portuguese and Spanish context.
